Is Blogging Dead or Still Kicking in 2024?
Grab some smelling salts and resuscitate me, Fatsters – did my bloodshot eyeballs read that title correctly?!
The clickbait-y question bouncing around lately is whether the old school pastime of blogging – MY CREATOR CAREER MEAL TICKET – has finally flatlined into obscurity!
As a grizzled veteran bootstrapping my way through countless posts over the years before urls like Substack or Medium were twinkles in their daddies’ eyes, you better believe Big B has some snap reactions to rumors that blogging is now extinct as printed newspapers!
Before totally flying off the handle though, let me take a meditative breath and channel my zen guru wisdom towards analyzing whether indie publishing still matters or truly curled up into the big RSS feed in the sky.
Stick with me as we get existential about the state of writing online!
Did Blogging Really Meet Its Demise?
I know, I know – even suggesting blogging lacks relevance anymore lands like boomer blasphemy to many independent creators out there, including myself!
This plucky digital medium empowered millions to finally control their voice, reach audiences directly, ditch gatekeepers, and forge careers on their own terms. Blogging sparked a democratic creative revolution!
But the nagging narrative gaining steam points to plummeting blog traffic broadly. Reader interest and commenting seemingly migrated elsewhere – namely social media. Self-publishing feels so Web 1.0 now.
The nostalgic glory era of prolific bloggers and conversational comment sections faded. Platform prioritization shifted. Cultural cachet evaporated. Blah blah blah. RIP blogging – long live Twitter drama I guess??
So is blogging well and truly dead in 2024 beyond some gray haired legacy holdouts? Time for a good ole’ fashioned Fatster reality check!
Blogging Still Rocks – You’re Just Doing It Wrong!
After scarfing down some blood pressure meds to avoid stroking out prematurely, let me channel Big B’s bombastic bravado to declare reports of blogging’s death about as accurate as Fyre Festival attendee estimates!
Sweeping statements claiming the MEDIUM itself gasping for breath lack more nuance than a Facebook argument. Blogging never “died”…most creators simply got complacent or half-assed executing it.
Let’s illustrate my point through contrasts:
Wrong Way: Starting some rinky-dink WordPress site in 2019, occasionally posting 300 word diary entries about your cat, ignoring SEO, neglecting social promotion, rarely responding to comments.
Right Way: Obsessively cover a specific niche/trend in 2024, craft epic 4,000 word ultimate guides, promote relentlessly across networks, run ads, collect emails, foster community, etc.
See my point? GOOD industrious blogging with audience passion still slays today. You just can’t expect red carpet results rolling out of bed tossing stale crumbs at readers! That’s where disconnect emerges.
Blogging didn’t lose relevancy – creators dictating terms did. But for bloggers applying Elon Musk levels of insane work ethic? Totally survivable!
Where Did Casual Bloggers Go Wrong?
Beyond mismatched effort levels and priorities driving blogging’s decline, I’d spotlight a few other areas where dabbler creators stumbled:
Complacency: Once comfortable audiences form, authors get lazy relying on legacy fans instead of constantly nurturing growth. Updates and engagement languish. Can’t take loyalty for granted!
No Authority: Random diary style rants don’t cut it anymore. Establishing topic Maven expertise through research, data, credibility now expected. Why tune in otherwise?
Exclusivity Vanished: Social apps democratized opinion sharing that was once blog turf. Lower barriers to sounding off dilutes uniqueness. Gotta bring extra flavor.
Again – don’t blame “blogging” itself! Just the way fly-by-night dabblers executed without making it a sustainable job. Treat blogging as a business and it earns like one!
So Is Professional Blogging Still Viable?
After spraying truth grenades on faulty assumptions declaring blogging deceased, the remaining question still stands – can someone carve out a full-time living web publishing in 2024? Or is professional blogging a stubborn pipe dream?
In my grey haired opinion…ABSOLUTELY! But a few conditions must be met to maintain viability:
- Relentless high quality output sustaining loyal audiences
- Diversified monetization like ads, sponsorships, products, etc fueling earning ability
- Conan level workaholic habits constantly creating and engaging at scale
- Sacred reciprocity with readers built on trust and value
Ain’t gonna lie – it’s DOUBLE the effort of a decade ago given attention fragmentation across apps. But for bloggers embracing hustle? Longterm profits solve short term problems!
If my rickety wrists can keep cranking out fiery hot takes weekly to sustain my empire here, so can you aspiring publishers! Just gotta stick to a proven blueprint.
Final Verdict – Reports of Blogging’s Death Are Greatly Exaggerated
Whelp, I rest my case here folks! Hopefully peeling behind misconceptions around blogging in 2024 reveals that indie publishing still offers TONS of merit when executed strategically.
Any apparent dying gasps likely come from dilettantes half-assing the medium and expecting insta-results. But there’s still PLENTY room at the blog game roundtable for scrappy creators willing to grind!
So keep those blogger dreams alive and keyboards tapping, Fatsters. Because we need spirited digital rabblerousers now more than ever. Everything cycles in and out of favor eventually. For bold publishers playing long games – your shine will come!
Excuse me now while I mash refresh anxiously on my hosting dashboard to ensure uptime stays pristine. These prolific pipes must keep pumping!
